Coaches "player of the festival" - Ross Burgoine
Within the first 3 minutes of the first game against Hinckley it was evident that the boys were on form. Any loose balls were quickly gathered up & converted into well engineered counter-attacks. Hinckley fared well as we have seen in the past, but were driven back by determined defence & strong forwards.
Derby & Wells (Somerset) – never previously met, suffered a similar fate with all players in the squad getting an outing at this stage.
After a break for lunch we were to meet our nemesis & arch-rivals Ashby. Of all the teams in the country we have played, this is the match we came to see. The "clash of the titans" started as we expected, with the sort of determination usually related to not going to bed! Any attempted attacking moves by Ashby were quickly suppressed by a very strong Lutterworth defence. Most of the play was carried out in the Ashby half throughout the game, but an equally strong Ashby defence made it near impossible to break through. In the end we were beaten by the clock, but it looked likely that given an extra 2 or 3 minutes we may have breached the line.
At this stage in the tournament we were level with Ashby by games won, the overall festival winner to be decided by tries scored.
The last team we played was Syston to decide the victors. After an all out effort, the boys shone through again which won the day on tries scored overall, with an impressive "no tries conceded".
