Lutterworth  24pts   v  Towcestrians 35pts

Lutts and Towcestrians in 9 try thriller!

Lutterworth Colts kicked off a new season with a tough home friendly against Towcestrians RFC. The visitors dominated the first half before a second half Lutts comeback made the final score 35-22 to Towcestrians.

Prior to the game kicking off the team were able to announce this season’s sponsors. Manager Geoff Lloyd said “This year we are pleased to welcome back Rural Building Supplies, who are sponsoring the Colts for the 3rd year in a row. They will also be joined by George’s Taxis and Koggys Bar and their combined support will ensure the lads start the new season with a complete new set of kit. Thank you to all three companies, your fantastic help despite the current financial situation really is gratefully received.”

The visitors dominated the first half and raced into a 3 try lead, successfully converting all three to make it 21-0. It looked like they would take that score to the break but straight from the final restart Dan Holmes pounced on loose ball to score between the posts. Greg Littlewood converted the kick to make it 21-7 to Towcestrians at half time.

Lutterworth started the stronger straight from the off as a lively Holmes won the chase to the restart kick. He moved the ball to scrum half James Lloyd who threw a lovely long pass out to Luke Ball on the wing, who looked like he was going to score himself in the corner. As he was tackled he flicked the ball over his shoulder to Joe Burnham, who was able to crash over the line. Almost immediately Lutts scored a third as Josh Williams caught the kick and made some great ground into the opposition territory. The ball was taken on before Mike Ingham forced his way over. Greg Littlewood converted to get Lutts within two points of the lead. The visitors extended the lead with another converted score before Lutts got their fourth try.  It came as Harry Goldsworthy made a fantastic run before passing out to Ball. He jinked his way down the line to score in the corner. Crucially the kick was missed and as the home side pushed for that final winning score, it was the visitors who raced away to score and ensure Towcestrians held out for a hard earned 35-24 win.

New Head Coach Steve Dillow said “a good response from all my players after the disappointing first half. We always knew it would be a tough run out against one of the region’s most competitive teams but we competed well in the end. As ever, the game has given us plenty to work on in training, to get ready for the next game away to Market Bosworth”.
