League Game

Lutterworth  14pts  v  Banbury  22pts

Lutterworth played host to Banbury who had comprehensively beaten them 81-0 in their previous meeting and they were clearly out to exonerate themselves. The early exchanges were quite even, and after 15 minutes, the visitors went over for a push over try following a 5-metre scrum. Lutterworth soon replied by applying good forward pressure and retaining possession through several phases for scrum half Adam Higgins to break close to the base and go over for a try under the posts, this was converted by Bobby Williams. The visitors then came back with a text book try by going through 4 phases to draw in Lutterworth’s defence to then spread it wide to go over for another unconverted try making the score 10-7. Lutterworth then lost their own lineout on the 22 metre for the visitors number 8 to crash over for a converted try. Lutterworth then dug deep and again went through several phases and moved the ball wide to Joe Ball, who beat two defenders to go over for a try in the corner which was followed by a superb conversion by Williams.

Half-time:            14-17

The second half saw Lutterworth apply all the early pressure, and they camped in the oppositions 22 for 15mins, but unfortunately came away empty handed. The following exchanges were even, until just before the end the visitors finally broke Lutterworth’s stout defence to go over for another try in the corner.

Final score:            14-2
