MIDLANDS TWO EAST (South) LEAGUE

Old Newtonians  22pts  v  Lutterworth  13pts

Old Newts won a closely contested match that could have gone either way. Lutterworth dominated the first 20 minutes but lacked precision in finishing after some hard fought possession only managing to score a penalty through Andrew Burgess. Old Newts were reduced to 14 men after some foul play, which left Burgess limping and carrying an injury. Lutterworth then had a try dissallowed for obstruction but made amends soon afterwards when Paul Riley went over for a well deserved try.

HT Score 0-8

Old Newts then dominated the second half  with 4 tries only one of which was converted, this was despite long periods of pressure by Lutterworth which came to nothing because of silly mistakes and handling errors. They did eventually get their act together and scored a well worked try through Dan Ford which briefly put them back in front at 13-10. They then had a chance to win it when the opposition were again reduced to 14 men after another foul play incident, but again lost possession from their own scrum whilst camped on the opponents line. As a result Old Newts cleared their line well and then sealed their victory with a try at the other end which was duly converted.

Final Result 22-13

Next Saturday Lutterworth play host to Peterborough Lions.
