Loughborough 32pts v Lutterworth 22pts
Lutterworth travelled to Loughborough to play a re-arranged fixture as both sides had been given a bye in the first round of the EDF National cup being played today.
The Lutterworth side showed five changes from last week but started well with the forwards winning quick ball, Dan ford making good ground on the wing and passing inside to Tom Hooper for an excellent try in the first minute, conversion by Robin Eager. There then followed a long period of Loughborough pressure mainly from a flow of quality lineout ball. Loughborough scored three tries in a twenty minute spell, all of them created by their right winger who ran through tackles at will, scored one try and made the other two. Lutterworth didn’t help their cause by a succession of penalties for either handling in the ruck or not releasing but Loughborough only managed three points from a number of kickable positions. In a rare incursion into the Loughborough half Lutts were awarded a penalty converted by Robin Eager.
HT score Loughborough 22-Lutterworth 10.
Loughborough started the second period like Lutterworth had the first with an excellent quick try to put them 19 points clear. Lutts then enjoyed their best spell of the match with a kick ahead by Adam Higgins which he caught and touched down, conversion by Robin Eager. Loughborough converted a penalty but the last ten minutes were all Lutterworth who were rewarded with a try from a lineout catch and drive scored by Captain, Paul Riley but the conversion was missed.
Lutterworth resume their league campaign with an away game against O.Newtonians next week and will need to improve on this performance if they are to mount a credible league challenge.
