1st TEAM Match Report
Saturday 17th October 2009
Midlands Two East (South) League
Lutterworth 23pts v Aylestone St James 3pts
A match littered with mistakes from both sides but Lutterworth always produced quicker ball than the visitors which gave them the opportunities to create pressure which ultimately led to their two late tries to confirm victory in a game in which they had always been in the lead.
The first half was a sequence of penalties with Lutterworth converting three opportunities, all by Aaron Dann, to give them a nine-nil lead after twenty minutes. Jimmies had several penalties but only scored from one which gave the home team a nine-three lead at the interval. Lutterworth lost prop, Richard Jones, with a nasty ankle injury after twenty seven minutes and he was replaced by Nathan Welham, making his first team debut, and he made the most of it with a strong performance. Jimmies lost their winger to a yellow card just before half time for a deliberate trip.
Early in the second half the visitors lost two more players to yellow cards which led to a period of uncontested scrums but the home team did not take advantage of their numerical superiority. Half way through the second half Dan Ford scored a fine try when, after quick ball from the forwards, he stepped inside two defenders to go over the line, conversion by Dann. The last score was an attempt by the Jimmies to run out of defence. Jim Croucher took advantage of a loose pass to intercept and go over under the posts to give Aaron Dann his last and easiest kick. The last ten minutes were run down by Lutterworth and the visitors never looked like reducing the deficit.
