Huntingdon 10pts  v  Lutterworth  9pts

Lutterworth started the game strongly using the elements which were in their favour, and after five minutes made the pressure pay by going ahead through a penalty by Aaron Dann. However this seemed to kick the home side into action and after ten minutes and strong forward pressure they went over after a lineout near the visitors’ line. There then was a long period of stalemate with Lutterworth not able to make good use of the elements and also losing scrum half Higgins to injury. Huntingdon then increased their advantage, when their fly half made a good break through the middle, and the ensuing loose maul dominated by the home side resulted in another unconverted try.

Half-time:            10-3

The home side then had the advantage of the wind and the slope but could not increase their lead due to good Lutterworth defence. Lutterworth got back into the game after a good drive up the field and being awarded a penalty which Dann converted making the score 10-6. Lutterworth continued to work hard and all the forwards put in good performances especially Randle, Evans and the veteran Ivan Tivey, with Turner scoring good possession in the lineout. Late in the second half Lutterworth broke from deep in their own half through a good run from Tom Goldsworthy, who was tackled late when kicking over the final line of defence. This resulted in the offending player being yellow carded and Dann kicking the penalty which, put Lutterworth to within one point of the lead and looking as though they could pinch it. Unfortunately with five minutes left replacement scrum half Bell was yellow carded for stamping in the ruck, which saw Lutterworth being pinned in their own 22 from the resultant penalty which they never recovered from.

Final score:            10-9
