League Game
Lutterworth 39pts v Northampton Old Scouts 3pts
Lutterworth started off their league campaign with an emphatic and well-deserved win over Northampton Old Scouts, which was down to an excellent overall team performance. The visitors opened the scoring after 15 minutes with a penalty, which was closely followed by a well worked, try for Lutterworth by Matt Randle. The home forwards then put together some good phases, allowing the three-quarters to go over for another well worked try, through Robin Eager which was converted. Lutterworth continued to apply the pressure which was rewarded with a penalty by Eager after 33 minutes, and consolidated their lead with a very good handling movement which put jimmy Croucher over for a try just before half time.
HT Score 20-3
Lutterworth started the second half with good handling in both the forwards and backs, resulting in a three-quarter move which saw Robin Eager go over for his second try which he converted himself. There then followed a period of dogged rugby seeing both sides defending well, two individuals standing out for the home side securing most of the 50-50 ball in the shape of Dennis Hall and Rob Sands. Then Lutterworth started to assert again which resulted in Tom Hooper running a great line to break through the defence and run 60 yards to go over for a try. They then completed a good day at the office with another good move, which saw Joe Ball go over for a good try converted by Eager.
The final result was 39-3, which sees Lutterworth top of the table, as a result of very good pre-season preparation, and a thoroughly competent TEAM performance, well done to all concerned.
Next Saturday Lutterworth travel to Loughborough.
