League Game
Towcester 33pts v Lutterworth 21pts
A topsy turvey affair, which resulted in a controversial win for the home side after some dubious interpretation of the front row replacement law. However Lutterworth can hold their heads high as they put up a far better performance than the previous year which saw them comprehensively beaten 40 pts to 5.
Lutterworth dominated the early exchanges making hard yards with good work by the forwards which unfortunately was not turned into points, because of handling errors and wrong options taken at crucial times. The home side then went ahead against the run of play, when they went over for a try following a quickly taken tap penalty, which they converted. This was closely followed by a penalty conversion, which saw them 10 points ahead. Lutterworth showed great character and came back immediately with a try by Paul Wilford after following up his own charge down, this was converted by Aaron Dann. They then followed up with another try after good work by the forwards and then sending it wide for Dan Ford to go over for a try converted by Dann. The home side replied with a penalty which made the half time score 13-14 to the visitors.
The second half was end to end stuff seeing Towcester scoring two well worked tries from rolling mauls following short range line-outs, which were both converted and they also added two penalties. Lutterworth responded with another try of their own following a take against the head and a drive over the line where skipper Paul Riley touched down, and it was again converted by Dann. Lutterworth can consider themselves unlucky as they dominated in the set pieces which resulted in the home side losing two front row players, this controversially resulted in passive scrums which favoured Towcester.
