League Game
Lutterworth 22pts v Old Newtonians 0pts
Lutterworth finally broke their loosing run dating back to the away game at Banbury on 31st Oct. Signs had been good against Banbury last week in the return home fixture which ,although lost, had showed spirit and commitment The same qualities proved too much for Old Newtonians. Although results have been poor this season the fact that six of this team were Colts last year must auger well for the future.
Early play was even with nothing to choose between the two packs at scrum and lineout but Lutterworth already looked the better in the loose. The home team opened their scoring after twenty minutes with a catch and drive from a lineout with Dennis Hall getting the touch down and the try was well converted by Robin Eager. Consistent pressure followed from Lutterworth and a ruck close to their opponents line allowed scrum half, Adam Higgins, to give a quick pass to Warren Tebb who scored in the corner. The conversion failed and there was no further score before half time.
Half-time: 0 - 12
Fifteen minutes into the second half another forward drive down the touchline finished with a try by skipper, Paul Riley. The conversion was missed. The Lutterworth backs had proved a constant threat with Tom Goldsworthy making strong runs at centre, Aaron Dann prompting well at 10, Dan Ford looked particularly sharp on one wing and Phill Daffern played his usual intelligent game on the other wing.
Five minutes later Lutterworth scored their final try after another strong run from the base of the scrum by Dave Stannard, quick passing by the three’s allowed winger, Dan Ford, to score the best try of the game. The game ended with the opposition pressing but unable to put any points on the board
Final score: 22 - 0
