Midlands 2 East League Match
Banbury 81pts v Lutterworth 0pts
A completely unexpected result with Lutterworth, having displayed good form the previous week, travelling to Banbury with high expectations and ending up a distant second.
Early signs were ominous for Lutterworth who were unable to defend a speculative kick ahead in the second minute and going behind to a convereted try. Lutterworth applied consistent pressure in the set scrums and loose for the next ten minutes but, losing the ball in a turnover, were soon defending their own line and giving away a penalty after handling in a ruck.
Banbury were always able to gain ground with breaks from their dangerous threequarters and another try was nearly conceded only to be saved by the winger putting a foot in touch. Another ruck offence saw Banbury adding another three points and in the last five minutes of the half Banbury scored two more tries which were down to poor defending and missed tackles.
Half time score 25 – 0.
The second half saw Banbury completely dominant , scoring a total of eight tries, all of which were converted. Six of the tries came from their threequarters who were always able to outpace the Lutterworth defence and their forwards got into the act with a try under the posts after good inter-passing and another try from a tapped penalty.
Altogether a bad display from Lutterworth who were lethargic throughout. Injuries to Rob Sands and Tom Goldsworthy did not help but there was no real excuse for a very poor performance.
