Midlands 2 East League Match
Aylestone St James 6pts v Lutterworth 5pts
Ayelstone applied all the early pressure and were rewarded with two converted penalties making it 6-0 to the home side. Lutterworth then replied with a box kick from Adam Higgins, which became good turnover ball, and good handling in the middle by Daffern and Donovan put Joe Ball over for a try in the corner. It then became a dour struggle and Lutterworth lost cornerstone Paul Wilford to a shoulder injury who was replaced by veteran Ivan Tivey. Both teams defended very well and Phil Daffern pulled off a brilliant try saving tackle to keep Lutterworth in the game.
Half-time: 6-5
Early in the second half Luttewroth applied all the pressure, but the home sides defence held strong, which meant Lutterworth came away empty handed. After 55 mins Dennis Hall who had made a very good and welcome return after injury, was replaced by Adam Welsh. Again both defences held strong, and close to the end Lutterworth scrum half Adam Higgins was replaced by Ben Stretton. All in all it was a typical local derby where the homeside just came out on top.
Final score: 6-5
