Lutterworth   9pts  v  Loughborough 10pts

Lutterworth narrowly lost in this all Leicestershire battle which was badly effected by the prevailing conditions of strong winds and rain.

Lutterworth dominated up front and applied constant pressure on their opponents line for much of the first half, but could not cross the line. This was mainly due to lack of penetration in the backs, which cost them dearly. The home side finally made their pressure tell with two penalties by Robin Eager, however the visitors quickly took advantage of a handling mistake by going over for a try in one of their few visits into Lutterworth’s half. The home side replied with another penalty by Eager.

The second half was more of the same although Loughborough had more of the territorial advantage with the wind on their backs and went over for a second try after the ball shot out the back of a ruck which Lutterworth could not control. The home side could at this point quite easily have capitulated, but instead there then followed their best period of play, putting several phases of  rugby, together and should have gone over twice. This was foiled by good defence from the visitors and handling errors by Lutterworth which resulted in a narrow defeat for them, although they showed great spirit throughout and it could just have easily gone the other way.

Final score:            9 – 10.
