Midlands 2 East League Match

Leicester Forest  40pts  v  Lutterworth  22pts

Lutterworth lost their third league match in a row but the performance showed an improvement on last week’s second half collapse. Possession and territorial advantage belonged to Lutts for most of the game but poor tackling let the home side break out from defence on three occasions in the first twenty minutes and score each time, two tries were converted. Lutterworth were playing against a strong wind but their pressure was rewarded by a try by winger, Lee Donovan, and an excellent touchline conversion , into the wind, by Robin Eager. Another break from defence saw Leics Forest extend their lead but the half finished with Lutterworth applying pressure.

Half-time:        26 -7

The pattern continued in the second half with Leicester scoring two more long distance tries within ten minutes of the re-start to take them into an unassailable 33 point lead. Substitutes, Paul Riley and Joe Sullivan, were brought on at hooker and number 8, which injected more drive into the pack and the last twenty minutes were all Lutterworth. Tries came from Ben Stretton, on the wing. Scrum half Jez Bell, who worked hard all game, scored from a tapped penalty and lastly  by Paul Riley. The half belonged to the visitors but poor defence had ultimately cost them the game.

Final score:            40 – 22.

Next week Lutterworth are at home to Loughborough in the 3rd round of the National Intermediate Cup, kick-off 2pm
