Lutts take the points in the second of three!

Lutterworth Colts travelled to Syston for the second of three successive games between these two evenly matched sides, this time in a Colts League encounter. It was another excellent game, as Lutts reversed last weeks narrow Cup defeat, with a well deserved 14-8 win.

Lutterworth dominated the first 10 minutes and took an early lead as a lovely passing move developed down the wing. Tom Goldsworthy and Aaron Dann swapped passes before Joe Sullivan made a storming run down the wing to touch down in the corner. Robin Eager missed the difficult kick, but made amends minutes later as he kicked a 35 metre penalty, despite the very windy conditions. The Lutts pressure continued forcing Syston to give away another penalty, which Eager dually converted. Syston responded immediately by converting a penalty of there own through David Torr, to make it 11-3 to Lutts at half time.

The home side used the conditions well in the second half, narrowly missing an early penalty before they touched down for their opening try. It came through lively winger James Goode, who followed up his two tries the previous week, with a lovely run down the wing, to score in the corner. Crucially the kick was missed, leaving the visitors still 3 points ahead. Lutts had two chances to extend the lead with a couple of penalties, missing the first but converting the 2^nd once again through Eager. Syston chased the game in the last 5 minutes but solid defensive play and some strong tackling, ensured Lutts held out for a hard earned and well deserved 14-8 win.

Head Coach David Johnson said “a fantastic response from all my players after last week’s National Cup disappointment. All the players contributed and the work rate and support was excellent. The bar has been raised for next weeks cup match between these two highly competitive teams”.

Both sides meet again on Saturday as Lutts once again travel to Syston for the Leicestershire Colts cup quarter final encounter (kick off 2.15).
