League Game
Market Bosworth 10pts v Lutterworth 16pts
An injury hit Lutterworth Colts squad travelled to meet Market Bosworth and recorded a hard earned 16-10 win, to register there 3rd victory over the home side this season.
Lutts dominated the first half and took the lead through a Robin Eager penalty and a well taken Luke Ball drop goal, so it was against the run of play when Bosworth scored the first try. It came when a quick tap penalty was moved along the line to no 8 Chris Vintel, who powered his way over the line. Lutterworth responded in the best way possible, straight from the restart. The Lutts kick was well taken by the defence but Joe Sullivan brilliantly read the attempted pass to intercept and race in and score between the posts. The kick was converted to make it 13-5 at half time.
Lutts had travelled with a squad of only 17 and two injuries just before half time meant the squad was stretched to the limit for the 2nd half. Robin Eager punished the home side early on as he kicked another penalty before Bosworth started to dominate possession and claw their way back into the game. They scored a second try through a busy Zac Bone but crucially the kick was missed. Both teams swopped penalty kick misses but it was the home side that were camped in Lutts territory for the last 15 minutes. A brave, booming defensive display kept Bosworth at bay and it was Lutterworth who ran out deserved 16-10 winners at the close.
Head Coach David Johnson said “it was a game of two halve’s as we dominated the first and had to dig deep to defend our hearts out in the 2nd. I was proud of such a brave defensive display which was typified by our hooker Warren Tebb stepping up to cover as prop and Greg Kirkby leading by example as he put in the tackle of the season”.
Lutts welcome Market Harborough to Ashby Lane next Saturday (kick off at 3.00 PM).
