COLTS TEAM Match Report
Saturday 20th December 2008
Lutterworth 48pts v Stratford-Upon-Avon 0pts
Lutterworth Colts welcomed Stratford-Upon-Avon to Ashby Lane on Saturday and ran out convincing 48-0 winners. This was a change to the advertised game against Bedworth when they disgracefully accepted another home game, at the expense of making the trip to Lutterworth. So thank you to Stratford for stepping in and agreeing to a game at such short notice (Thursday night!), despite having a few injuries and shame on Bedworth RFC for breaking a long time commitment.
Lutts took control from the start and ran in four unopposed first half tries through Simon Johnson, Joe Sullivan, James Cooke and Luke Ball, with Robin Eager converting two to make it 24-0 at half time. Try of the half came through Ball as lovely hands deep in Stratford territory saw the ball moved out to Ball on the wing. He made a superb angled run collecting the ball at speed and pacing his way through the defence and over the line for a lovely score.
Lutts maintained the pressure in the 2nd half scoring four more tries through Ball, Tom Goldsworthy, Andrew Pridding and Sullivan, with Eager converting two more of the scores. Try of this half was Pridding’s as Goldsworthy caught the high kicked ball from the Statford clearance and quickly put through Eager. He made a great cross field run before popping the ball out to Pridding. He still had it all to do but he dived under the attempted tackle to slide in at the corner, making it 48-0 to Lutts at the close.
Head Coach Dave Johnson said “A great game to finish 2008 on and it was good to see that we were ruthless in our finishing, scoring 8 lovely tries. Well done to Stratford who managed to keep going despite the one way traffic and thank you again for taking this fixture at such late notice”.
After the game Lutterworth had a celebration Christmas dinner and Dave Johnson was able to announced the ‘Committed Player of the Year’ Award. The Harry Ellis signed Lutterworth shirt was fittingly awarded to hard working hooker Warren Tebb.
