League Game

Lutterworth  8pts  V  Syston 12pts

Lutts Colts lose out to strong Syston.

Lutterworth Colts welcomed Syston to Ashby Lane on Saturday for their 3rd game in the Leicestershire Colts League and just lost out 8-12 in a quality encounter.

Lutts took an early lead through a Robin Eager penalty but were soon pegged back when Ryan Brown scored for the visitors. He won a kick and chase as he disrupted the defence to touch down. Lutts had an immediate chance to retake the lead from the very next attack, but the penalty was narrowly missed, leaving it  3-5 at half time.

The next score was always going to be telling and so it proved as Syston crossed the line to extend the lead. Daniel Bower scored the try as he made a rampaging run, to cleverly touch down over his head, despite the attention of two tacklers. Blake Tressler converted the kick to make it 12-3 to Syston. From here on in it was all Lutterworth, with the visitors holding out until 4 minutes from the end. Quick ball was moved out to Luke Ball, who ran in at pace to touch down in the corner. The conversion was required to put Lutts into drop goal territory but the difficult kick was missed to leave it 12-8 to Syston at the end.

Head Coach David Johnson said “a great game of rugby played by two quality sides, with superb commitment shown by both squads of players. We didn’t take our chances, while they did and I have no complaints with the final result. Well done both sides for a lovely game of rugby”.

Lutterworth Colts welcome Market Bosworth next Saturday (3.00 PM kick off at Ashby Lane), while Syston visit Wellingborough, both for the first round of the National Cup.
