League Game
Lutterworth 24pts v Mkt Harborough 15pts
On Thursday night Lutterworth Colts welcomed local rivals Market Harborough to Ashby Lane and they recorded a hard earned 24-15 win in a very competitive game under lights.
Lutts dominated the first half and took the lead through an Aaron Dann try. Joe Sullivan made a lovely break before James Lloyd released Dann to pace his way through. Matt Gilbert replied with a Harborough penalty before Sullivan scored a try of his own. The ball was moved between 3 sets of hands as Dann made a lovely run down the wing before releasing Sullivan, who powered his way over the line. Robin Eager converted both tries and slotted a penalty to make it 17-3 at half time.
Lutterworth opened up the half with the try of the game as a brilliant Dan Holmes dummy opened up space for Greg Kirkby to take the pass at speed and crash his way under the posts. Eager made it a 100% kicking display as he kicked the conversion. As the game moved into the final 20 minutes Market Harborough began to dominate and they turned the pressure into two scores through Matt Burton and James Gough. Gilbert kicked the first conversion and Lutts held out for a hard earned 24-15 win.
Head Coach David Johnson said “another good result for Lutterworth, despite looking a little rusty through lack of matches in the last 3 weeks. And well done to Market Harborough, who put us under a lot of pressure in the final quarter”.
Lutts welcome Oadby Wyggs to Ashby Lane on Saturday, for the final game of the season (kick off at 3.00 PM).
