League Game
Lutterworth 27pts V Coalville 5pts
Lutterworth Colts warmed up for next Sundays RFU National Cup trip to Scunthorpe with a convincing 27-5 league win over Coalville, at Ashby Lane on Saturday.
Lutts totally dominated the first half scoring 2 penalties and two converted tries, without reply. In fact if the final pass had gone to hand they would have finished off a further 3 golden opportunities. Luke Ball was on fire as he kicked both penalties and converted both of the tries. Richard Bailey scored the first try after 5 minutes as good hands from Robin Eager and Tom Goldsworthy saw the ball popped up for Bailey. He took the pass at speed and powered his way through and over the line. Try two came straight off the training ground as a lovely rehearsed penalty tap was finished off by Joe Sullivan, who raced in unopposed, leaving it 20-0 at half time.
The first half was always going to be difficult to follow and so it proved as Lutterworth, with one eye on next weeks Cup game, made a number of changes, to give the entire squad a run out. The home side once again dominated and the pressure eventually led to scoring the try of the game. The ball was quickly moved from one wing to the other before reaching Ball, who took the final pass at speed and then brilliantly jinked his way in from the half way line, to finish off a fantastic team score. Despite the score line Coalville never let there heads drop and there hard work was finally rewarded as their forwards forced their way over, to make it 27-5 at the close.
Head Coach David Johnson said “a great first half of rugby, we really could have scored a hat full of tries, but we need to work on that final pass going to hand. However we have to be happy with another good win and some great preparation for the National Cup game next week”.
Lutterworth Colts make the long journey to Scunthorpe next Sunday (kick off 2.00 PM) for round 2 of the RFU National Cup.
