League Game

Lutterworth  19pts  V  Market Bosworth 11pts

Lutts Colts beat powerful Bosworth side.

Lutterworth Colts came up against a powerful Market Bosworth at Ashby Lane on Saturday and their visitors were up for revenge having lost to Lutts in the National Cup. But this talented Lutterworth side once again tamed Bosworth, to run out well deserved 19-11 winners.

Bosworth showed their respect for the home side by choosing to kick an early penalty, to take a 3-0 lead. From the subsequent restart the ball was brilliantly collected by Simon Johnson, before Bosworth gave away a penalty. Robin Eager stepped up to coolly slot the kick, despite the very windy conditions. From the very next attack Johnson was again involved as he powered his way towards the line, before being pulled down a few metres short. The ball was quickly moved out wide through three sets of hands before James Cooke took the ball at speed and crashed through from the 22, to finish off a lovely team try. Both teams then swopped penalties, with Eager slotting the Lutterworth kick. With seconds to go, the home side gave away a penalty close to there own line and from the quick tap, the ball was moved to the Bosworth number 5 who drilled his way through to make it 13-11 at the close of the half.

Lutts now had the benefit of the strong wind and they used it intelligently to pin Bosworth in their own half. The visitors defended there hearts out but repeatedly infringed. Robin Eager clearly packed his kicking boots, to first brilliant kick a penalty from the half way line and to then slot a second from close to touch, on the 10 metre line. It was now all Lutterworth as Eager just missed two difficult penalty attempts and Luke Ball narrowly missed with a drop kick, but these misses had no bearing on the final result as the home side ran out well deserved 19-11 winners.

Head Coach Dave Johnson said “Once again we have met the challenge of one of the Counties top sides head on and turned in a excellent team performance to beat them for a 2nd time this season. This talented squad a players should now be realising how good they really are and this win sets us up well for next weeks National Cup game”.

Lutterworth Colts welcome Towcestrians RFC to Ashby Lane next Saturday for the 3rd round of the RFU National Colts Cup (kick off 2.15 PM). Please get down and support the Colts, in what should be a great game of rugby.
