League Game

Lutterworth  55pts  V  Oakham 10pts

Lutts Colts make winning League debut!

Lutterworth Colts entertained Oakham at Ashby Lane on Saturday for their first game in the newly formed Colts League and registered a superb 55-10 win.

Oakham had travelled with a small squad and a tough game was on the cards and so it proved. However the visitors took an early lead through an Archer penalty.  Lutterworth then quickly replied through Luke Wright. He powered his way through to touch down under the posts and Robin Eager successfully converted the kick to make it 7-3. Try 2 was soon to arrive as Robert Reeds was on the end of a lovely passing sequence after a quick tap penalty. Eager converted his second kick. Just as it looked like Lutts were pulling away, Oakham’s Tom Burton intercepted a pass on half way and ran in unopposed. Archer converted to make it 14-10. Normal service soon resumed as the Lutts forwards won scrum ball against the head. It was quickly moved out to Luke Ball, who made a lovely, jinking run from half way, to touch down in the corner. Eager was on fire with his kicking as he made it 3 from 3. Just before half time Lutts disrupted Oakham ball at a scrum and the loose ball was hacked on by Joe Sullivan. He won the chase and after a 2nd kick on, dived on the ball to score and make it 26-10 at half time.

The second half was all one way as Oakham tired and Lutterworth ran in 5 unanswered tries. Tom Goldsworthy scored a brilliant individual try as he raced in from half way, gliding past four defenders before touching down. A quick tap penalty led to the next score as Robert Reeds crossed the line. Reeds repeated the feat minutes later as he again finished off a lovely passing move to score and register a lovely hat trick. Ball kicked the conversion before bagging a 2nd try of the day for himself, racing in at pace down the wing and diving in the corner. The final try of the day came from a busy Tom Goldsworthy who received the ball on half way before racing in untouched to score under the posts. Ball converted to make it 55-10 at the close.

Coach Tony James said “an excellent game of rugby by the Lutterworth lads, some of the passing and handling skills were superb and we scored some class tries today. And well done to Oakham who, despite the one way traffic, never let there head drop”.

The Colts visit South Leicester next Saturday, for their 2nd League game of the season.
