COLTS TEAM   Match Report

Saturday 3rd January 20098

Lutterworth  70pts  v  Keresley 0pts

Lutts turn on the style in 12 try demolition.

Lutterworth Colts welcomed Coventry side, Kersley to Ashby Lane on Saturday and ran out convincing 70-0 winners. Despite being the first game back after the two week Christmas break, this match had all the hall marks of a Barbarians classic, with the home side scoring some brilliant tries and playing some exciting, free flowing rugby!

Lutts took control from the whistle and ran in eight unopposed first half tries with two each from coming from Andrew Pridding and Robin Eager, while Richard Bailey, Josh Czerpak, Simon Johnson and Greg Kirkby (who was on his debut for Lutts) all scored a try a piece. Robin Eager converted three to make it 46-0 at half time. Try of the half, if not the season came through from Johnson. James Lloyd popped a pass to hooker Richard Bailey from the back of a maul, deep in Lutts territory. He swapped passes with Joe Sullivan, making great ground down the wing, before bringing Mark James into the move. Bailey looped around and took the ball back from James before releasing Johnson, who crashed through from the Kersley 22 metre line, to score under the posts and finish off a superb team try.

Lutts maintained the pressure in the 2nd half scoring four more tries with two coming from Tom Goldsworthy, one more from Johnson and a score from Luke Ball, who also slotted two of the conversions. Try of this half was Goldsworthy’s second as the ball was moved from one wing to the other, on the half way line.  He received the ball at speed and made a lovely arcing run, beating all the attempted tackles, before scoring between the posts and making it 70-0 to Lutts at the close.

Head Coach Dave Johnson said “What a fantastic way to start 2009. The boys have been threatening to produce this sort of performance for some time and I don’t think any side would have coped with Lutts in this mood. It was great to see all the hard work coming together with some breath taking rugby and quality passing moves, leading to some quality scores”.

Lutts are back in league action next week when they welcome Vipers to Ashby Lane on Saturday (kick off 2.15 PM).
