League Game
Oadby Wyggs 0pts V Lutterworth 61pts
Lutterworth Colts travelled to Oval Park, home of Leicester Tigers training ground, to meet Oadby Wyggs and in a one sided game they ran out massive 61-0 winners.
Lutts ran in 4 first half tries, without actually getting out of first gear. Scores came through Tom Goldsworthy, Mike Hill, two from Simon Johnson, with 3 conversions being successfully kicked by Robin Eager, which saw the visitor’s race into a 26-0 half time lead. Try of the half was the brilliant solo effort by Goldsworthy. Good hands saw the ball moved from one wing to the other before he received the ball on half way and proceeded to race his way down the wing, evading all tackles, to touch down in the corner.
Lutterworth completed the 9 try demolition when Goldsworthy achieved an excellent hat trick with two more scores and one each came from Joe Sullivan, Nathan Welham and James Cooke. Eager slotted all five conversions, including a couple from way out on the touch line to make it 61-0 at the close. Try of the half came through hard working prop Nathan Welham. Minutes earlier he had been held up just a metre from the line after making a superb 40 metre rampaging run. So it was fitting that in the very next attack, he was on hand to pick up and burrow his way through to touch down at the base of the posts.
Head Coach Dave Johnson said “We were a little rusty and disjointed in the first half but I was happier with the lad’s response in the second half. We have to become a little more ruthless when the try scoring chances present themselves as despite scoring 9 today, we missed another half dozen golden opportunities. Those mistakes would be punished by the stronger teams”.
Lutterworth Colts welcome Bedworth RFC to Ashby Lane next Saturday for a club fixture (kick off 2.15 PM), which will be their final game of 2008.
