League Game

South Leicester 6pts  V  Lutterworth  13pts 

Lutterworth Colts travelled to South Leicester on Saturday for their 2nd game in the Leicestershire Colts League and registered another good result, running out 17-6 winners.

After 10 minutes of sounding each other out, the game had to be reduced to uncontested scrums as South Leicester lost the use of one of their props and were unable to field a replacement. Soon after South took an early lead as the fly half slotted a penalty, from in front of the posts. This seemed to sting Lutterworth into a reply, as they marched straight into South Leicester territory, through a lovely series of passes. The ball was eventually moved out to Tom Goldsworthy who took the pass at speed and glided past 3 defenders, before touching down in the corner, for a lovely score. Quick scrum ball led to try number 2 as once again some quality passing moved the ball from one wing to the other before Goldsworthy once again finished off in the opposite corner. South never stopped trying and there efforts were rewarded just before half time as they slotted another simple penalty kick, to make it 10-6 to Lutts at half time.

It was a frustrating second half as Lutts failed to kill the home side off, despite never looking like conceding a try themselves. Both sides were giving away needless penalties, one of which was missed by Lutts, before Robin Eager finally sealed the game for the visitors. Quick passing from stolen ruck ball was moved out to Luke Ball who then put Eager through to score at the side of the posts. He also stepped up to convert his own score and make it 17-6 to Lutts at the close.

Head Coach David Johnson said “a messy game of rugby, but we never looked like losing and we eventually scored 3 lovely tries. There is plenty for us to work on in training, as we’ll have to step up our game for the visit of a strong Syston squad next week”.

 Lutterworth Colts welcome Syston to Ashby Lane next Saturday (3.00 PM kick off), for their 3^rd League game of the season.
