Lutterworth 22pts  v  Newbridge College  8pts

Lutterworth under 17’s entertained a strong Irish touring side in the shape of Newbridge College and ran out 22-8 winners.

Lutterworth set the tone straight from the kick off as a great chase forced Newbridge into holding on. From the penalty, captain Dan Holmes slotted between the posts to give the home side an early lead. Both teams then swapped penalty misses before the fist try was scored, by a lively Ashley Parrott. He did his trademark pick and drive from the back of a scrum, to power through. Holmes converted the kick. Newbridge were stung into a response and were rewarded with a penalty which was converted by their fly half, making it 10-3 at half time.

Newbridge had a better start to the 2^nd half, dominating the first 10 minutes and missing a penalty before scoring a try of their own. It was thanks to some good forward effort as the No 4 finished off a push and drive to touch down. Crucially the kick was missed, keeping the visitors two points adrift of Lutts. The try of the night came as the ball was moved through five sets of hands before reaching Luke Ball. He made a lovely run before scoring in the corner. Newbridge pressed to try and get back in the game and Joe Sullivan capitalised as he intercepted a forced pass and raced in from deep into his own half. He drop kicked his own score to make it 22-8 at the close.

Head Coach Chris Everard said “An excellent game played in a fantastic spirit by both sides. Well done to Newbridge College who despite being at the end of their Leicestershire tour, still managed to make a close game of it, with the result still in doubt with 15 minutes to go. I hope we get a chance to meet them again in the future”.

He was also able to award the ‘Man of the Match’ Award to Ashley Parrott, the Lutts No8, who received a fantastic watch supplied by the Newbridge main sponsor. Lutterworth’s next game is a visit to Leicester Forest on Sunday to take on a development XV.
