Under 17 Match Report
Sunday 30th September 2007
Vipers U17: 0pts V Lutterworth U17: 22pts
Lutterworth under 17’s travelled to meet a strong Vipers side on Sunday for a friendly match which gave Leicestershire’s current top two sides a chance to sound each other out. Once again Lutterworth kept the opposition scoreless, as they ran out 22-0 winners.
The Vipers massive forward pack had most of the game in the first half, but neither side had many chances to score, leading to a 0-0 half time score line.
Lutts came out with more determination in the 2nd half and missed an early chance to open the scoring as a Will Keeling penalty was narrowly missed. They then continued the pressure and were rewarded with a 5 metre scrum. Quick ball was moved out to Keeling and onto Connor Smith, who dived over to score in the corner. A welcome return to Lutts colours for both players as they played in their first game of the season. Almost immediately the visitors scored a second as a lovely step by James Cooke enabled him to put Luke Ball through. He made great ground before off loading to Keeling who burst through the gap to score under the posts. Ball successfully converted the kick. More heavy pressure saw the Vipers defence open up again as Keeling kicked the ball through and was first to react, as he picked up and dived over to score his second try of the day. With time ticking away Lutterworth again attacked and a nice passing move, through five set of hands, saw the ball finally reach Luke Ball out on the wing, who raced in unopposed from the half way line to score a lovely try and seal an excellent 22-0 win.
Head Coach Chris Everard said “a well contested first half, with Vipers forwards dominating and Lutts living off scraps. We changed the game plan in the 2nd half and ran the ball wide as often as possible, leading to four lovely tries”.
Lutterworth play their next League game away to Oadby Wyggs on Sunday (kick off 11.00 am).
