League Match

Lutterworth U17  17pts  v  Coalville

Lutterworth clinch Championship!

Having clinched the under 17’s League in the midweek fixture at Oadby, Lutterworth faced their penultimate game of the League season by welcoming Coalville to Ashby Lane. Lutts new objective was to finish the League season unbeaten and this was aided with a 26-5 win today.

Coalville were not here to be the whipping boys for the new Champions and they started off well, defending their hearts out. It took a great bit of individual skill from Connor Smith as he made a lovely arcing run before setting up Joe Seymour, who stepped his way through to score. James Lloyd was successful with the difficult kick, to make it 7-0. The one way traffic continued but the visitors defence held up, until captain Peter Rowe found a way through. Great hands saw the ball moved out to Smith, who moved it on to Rowe. He managed to force his way through to touch down. Lloyd once again converted to give Lutts a 14-0 half time lead.

Lutts continued where they left off in the first half and a third try was their just rewards as Rowe and Dan Robson swapped passes, making great ground before moving the ball on to Joe Sullivan. He stepped through a gap in the defensive line to score a lovely try. The Coalville forwards had worked very hard all day and they finally got some reward when camped on the Lutts line. After two attempts, prop Ben Mitchell was eventually driven over the line, to make it 19-5 to the home side. Lutts then stamped out any sniff of a comeback as some great individual skill saw Tris Crawshaw make a beautiful run from the half way line, to speed through and touch down. Luke Ball converted the kick to make it a final score of 26-5 to the Champions!

Head Coach Chris Everard said “It was a bit of an anti climax after sealing the League on Thursday, but hats off to Coalville who came here determined to make a mark. I was very proud to see the Lutts boys awarded the under 17’s League Championship trophy after the game. They say the league never lies and after the 13 match unbeaten run, with only 55 points scored against, you have to be pleased.”

A smiling Lutterworth President, Martyn Holmes said “I was so pleased to be invited to award the trophy to this fantastic squad of players. Their quality and consistency, over the season has done the club proud. I can only look forward to welcoming these lads to next season’s Colts squad, where we should have an awesome team.”

Next week Lutts play their final League game of the season away to a very strong Syston side (Sunday at Syston – kick off 11.00AM) and the latest League table is shown below.
