Under 17 Match Report
Sunday 25th November 2007
Lutterworth 12pts v Syston 6pts
Lutterworth under 17’s welcomed a strong and very competitive Syston team as Leicestershire’s top two sides played out a pulsating encounter, which Lutts eventually ran out close 12-6 winners.
Syston had most of the possession in the first half, taking full advantage of the wind. They converted this territory into 6 points as Tom Collier kicked two from three penalties. It looked like the visitors would go in at that score, but a great response from the home side saw them steel a score at the death. Line out ball was won 10 metres out and a fantastic driving maul saw Connor Smith come up with the ball from the pushover try. The kick was missed leaving the game finely balanced at 5-6 in Syston’s favour at half time.
Lutterworth now had the benefit of the wind as an early penalty opportunity was missed, before 15 minutes of Lutts pressure was rewarded with another score. Dan Holmes kicked a lovely ball from half way which was chased by Smith. He caught the bouncing ball and juggled it before diving over the line for a lovely 2nd score of the day. Luke Ball took the difficult kick from close to the touch line and successfully converted to give Lutts an excellent 12-6 win.
Head Coach Chris Everard said “Not a classic from the Lutterworth point of view and the Syston coaching team will feel they should be going home with more to show for their hard graft. The Lutterworth lads defended well and kept Syston at bay despite all their possession and a couple of well taken second half tries made all the difference for us.”
That result helped Lutterworth maintain their unbeaten run in the League and kept them in top spot, with a four point advantage (Please see other results and league table below). Their next game is on Sunday as they host Coalville (Kick off 11.00 AM at Lutterworth)
