League Match
Lutterworth U17: 17pts V Market Harborough U17: 0pts
Lutterworth under 17’s welcomed Market Harborough to Ashby Lane on Sunday for their 2nd game in the Under 17’s League and registered a 17-0 win, which took them to top position in the League standings.
Harborough had the wind advantage in the first half and played a kicking game, which took full advantage. The game was stuck in a loop as Lutts tried hard to work the way into Harborough territory, only to lose the ball and be marched back deep into their own half as the kick found touch time and time again. This pattern was repeated with no team really carving out a scoring opportunity, but it was the visitors who were happier with the 0-0 half time score line.
The second half was all one way as Lutterworth used the wind well, to spend most of the half in Market Harborough territory. If the passing had gone to hand, they would have scored a hat full of tries, but as it was their hard work was rewarded with 3 second half tries. Try number one came from a great bit of individual skill from Jack Edwards as he kicked over the defensive line and had the benefit of a lovely bounce to outrun the two defenders and score. Soon after some brilliant hands from quick scrum ball saw the ball quickly moved between James Cooke, Edwards and out to Luke Ball on the wing, who raced in to touch down in the corner. With seconds to go Ball scored his second as he again received a lovely pass to out run the defender and score in the corner. He sealed the 17-0 win as he converted his own try, with a difficult kick from the touchline.
Coach Mike Rowe said “Market Harborough made it very difficult in the first half and stuck to their game plan well, but our lads eventually moved up a gear in the second half and scored 3 well taken tries. The windy conditions made it tough going for both sides”.
Lutterworth went top of the League with that result (please see below for other results and table) ahead of Vipers and Market Bosworth on points difference.
