Under 17  Match Report

Sunday 20th April  2008

Lutterworth  10pts  v  Doncaster 0pts

Head Coach Everard bows out in style!

Lutterworth under 17’s welcomed tough opposition in the shape of Doncaster on Sunday, for their last game of the season. Both teams played out a thrilling match as Lutts ran out 10-0 winners. This was also the day that Head Coach Chris Everard retired from coaching, after 10 years of loyal dedicated service to mini and junior rugby at Lutterworth, so it was an emotional day down at Ashby Lane.

Lutts were determined to give Everard a fitting send off and they dominated straight from the kick off. An early penalty was narrowly missed as Greg Littlewood hit the post, before their efforts were finally rewarded with a score. It came from a scrum close to the Doncaster line as no 8 Ashley Parrott picked from the back of the scrum and powered his way through for a lovely try. Littlewood successfully converted to make it 7-0. The one way traffic continued but this impressive Doncaster side defended their hearts out and Lutts could not find a way through. After several visits to Doncaster territory failed to advance the score, Lutts were awarded a penalty 35 metres out. Luke Ball stepped up to slot a difficult kick and deservedly moved the scoreboard on to 10-0 at half time.

In the second half Lutts carried on where they left off and spent most of this half in Doncaster territory. The visitors once again demonstrated why this Yorkshire club were so well respected, by performing a master class of defensive play. The second half was scoreless which could give the impression of a boring game but nothing could be further from the truth as wave after wave of attack was defended like a cup final was at stake! When the whistle finally went it left the score 10-0 to Lutterworth.

A tearful Head Coach Chris Everard said “Thank you to Doncaster for travelling all this way and helping make this a great send off for me. We wish them well on their tour to South America in the summer. To my fantastic squad of players I say thank you for all your work, effort and courage. Many thanks too for all the fun, laughter and tears. It’s been a wonderful 10 years of my life and I wish you all the very best for the future”.

Lutterworth take the week off next Sunday as they have a well earned day out at Alton Towers, while the End of Season Awards take place the following Sunday (4th May) at Kilworth Springs Golf Club.
