Under 17 Match Report

SUNDAY 16th September 2007

Lutterworth 6pts   V   Melton Mowbray  0pts

Lutts U17’s win battle of heavy weights!

Lutterworth under 17’s welcomed a strong Melton Mowbray side on Sunday for a game billed as a friendly. The final score of 6-0 to Lutterworth did not do this titanic battle justice though, as Leicestershire two top teams played out a superb contest.

Melton won the toss and took full advantage of the wind as they camped in Lutts territory for most of the half. It was only some stunning defence from the home side that kept the score at 0-0 through to half time.

Roles were reversed in the second half as Lutterworth took control of the windy conditions, with Greg Littlewood narrowly missing an early penalty kick. The home side then continued the pressure and were rewarded as quick scrum ball was moved out to Jack Edwards who made a lovely drop kick to give Lutts the first points. They then extended the lead as more pressure led to Melton conceding a penalty in front of the posts. Littlewood made no mistake this time as the lead became 6-0. This score shocked Melton into a superb last 10 minutes of attacking rugby but some more fantastic defence by Lutts side kept them out.

Head Coach Chris Everard said “a brilliant game of rugby from both sides, I was especially impressed with our solid defence. It was a nerve racking game to watch, with the result still in doubt until the final seconds. These two teams will be in contention to the end of the League season and we look forward to two more massive games against this fine quality Melton side”.

Lutterworth play their next League game at home to Market Harborough on Sunday (kick off 11.00 am
