League Game

Lutterworth 0pts v Melton Mowbray 0pts

Don’t let anyone tell you that a 0-0 draw would have to mean a boring game, because if you’d been down at Ashby Lane on Sunday you would have seen Lutterworth and Melton Mowbray under 17’s battle it out in a most exciting draw!

Melton had the better of the first half, despite having the severe wind in their faces. Both teams had opportunities to cross the line but awesome defences from both sides, held out.

Roles were reversed in the 2^nd half as Lutterworth now had the wind in their faces and they used the conditions well as they kept the ball in hand, making plenty of progress into Melton territory. Peter Rowe thought he had crossed the line to open the scoring but a foot in touch by Ashley Parrott, who made the pass, meant it was ruled out. Melton had two very kickable penalties but insisted in running both as they could smell the line. But once again some stunning defence kept them at bay and in the end the 0-0 draw was probably a fair result for both teams.

Head Coach Chris Everard said “Conditions made it difficult for all the players, but both sides had their chances to steal the two points for a win. These Melton players have this uncanny ability to step up their game when ever they meet us and I’m sure the big crowd enjoyed a most exciting game. The point apiece was a fitting result for two very committed and hard working teams”.

That result helped Lutterworth maintain their unbeaten run in the League but Vipers took over top spot with a win today (Please see results and league position below). Vipers have played two more games than Lutterworth and both teams meet at Lutterworth on Sunday in what could prove to be a potential League decider (Kick off 11.00 AM at Lutterworth).
