Dudley Kingswinford 5pts v Lutterworth 13pts

Lutterworth under 17’s travelled to meet brand new opposition in the shape of Dudley Kingswinford RFC on Sunday. They made the long journey to the Black Country and came away with a hard fought 13-5 victory.
Lutts dominated the first half, scoring a converted try and two penalties without reply. The opening score came as a lively Joe Sullivan ripped the ball off the DK full back and moved the ball out to winger Liam Healy. He made a lovely run down the touch line to score in the corner. The visitors were pleased to welcome back full back Greg Littlewood, who was back on duty after a long break with a bad wrist injury. He converted the difficult kick to make it 7-0 to Lutterworth. Dudley we’re struggling to hold Lutterworth and inevitably gave away a penalty, which Littlewood dully converted. Minutes later Littlewood once again took the kicking duties, just missing his 2nd penalty from close to the half way line before slotting his 3rd kick from 30 metres out. That kick made it 13-0 to the visitors at half time.
DK were fresh from beating league champions Stourbridge and they showed similar determination as they started to take the game to Lutterworth. That hard work paid off as Ross Oakes hacked on a loose ball and then out paced the visitors defence to win the chase to touch down. The kick was missed and then the game drifted into a scrappy last 15 minutes, with no more scores as the game finished 13-5 to Lutterworth.
Head Coach Chris Everard said “a good first half from Lutterworth, with a well taken try and some excellent kicking from Greg Littlewood. But it was a very scrappy second half as the big penalty count from both sides just slowed the game down”.
Lutterworth are on their travels again next week as they meet Towcestrians on Sunday (kick off 02.00 pm at Towcester).
