League Match
Lutterworth U17: 42pts V Coalville U17: 8pts
Lutterworth under 17’s travelled to Coalville on Sunday for the first game in the Under 17’s League and registered a superb 42-8 win.
Lutts found it difficult to settle and it was Coalville who took the lead early on when Huw Clewes intercepted a loose pass on the visitor’s line to make it 5-0. The kick was missed. Lutts had an immediate chance to respond but the penalty kick was missed. They soon got onto the scoreboard as a lively Joe Sullivan finished off a lovely passing move to score in the corner. Sullivan was again on hand as Dan Holmes made a lovely break before shifting the ball out to Luke Ball and Ash Parrott, who put Sullivan through for another score in the corner. Both kicks were missed and Clewes pulled the home side back into the game with a well taken penalty. Lutts just had time to register a third try before half time as the ball was moved out to the wing through James Cooke and Joe Burnham, for Ball to dive in at the corner, making it 15-8 at half time.
The second half was all one way as Coalville tired and Lutterworth ran in 5 unanswered tries. The first two tries of the half were almost identical as first Cooke and then Littlewood finished off two great passing moves in the corner. Littlewood converted his own score. The try of the game came as Burnham bulldozed his way past 3 defenders to finish off a great solo effort in the corner. Great support by Cooke saw him score his second as he was on hand to take a lovely pop pass from Littlewood and dive over. The final score was down to great forward play as Peter Rowe picked up close to the line and drilled his way through the mass of bodies, to make it 42-8 to Lutterworth.
Coach Mike Rowe said “an excellent game of rugby by the Lutterworth lads, some the passing and handling skills were superb and we scored some class tries today. Well done to Coalville who, despite the one way traffic, never let there heads drop and thank you to referee Steve Gammage who had a great game”.
The under 17’s play a friendly next Sunday, at home against a powerful Melton Mowbray side.
