League Match

Mkt Bosworth U17 0pts  v  Lutterworth U17: 8pts

Lutts start New Year with hard fought win!

In their first League game of the New Year, Lutterworth under 17’s travelled to meet a competitive Market Bosworth side. They always seem to raise their game against Lutts and this match was no exception as Lutterworth eventually ran out a close 8-0 winners.

Bosworth dominated possession in the first half but failed to capitalise as they missed two penalty kicks. Lutterworth however maximised a visit to Bosworth territory as a quick tap penalty taken by scrum half Sam Williamson led to a penalty as the home side failed to retreat 10 metres. Luke Ball stepped up to strike the ball over and give Lutts a 3-0 half time lead.

Roles were reversed in the 2nd half as Lutterworth now had the slope in their favour and the sun on their backs. An early penalty to the visitors was missed as were three try scoring opportunities by Connor Smith, Andrew Pridding and Ashley Parrott. All three being held up by some superb defence from the home side. Bosworth also had a rare chance as they made a break from deep in their own half but some fantastic defence from Ball ensured they remained scoreless. It was fitting that he was rewarded when Lutterworth stole Bosworth lineout ball and moved the ball swiftly out to the wing, were Ball raced in to touch down in the corner. He missed his own conversion to make it 8-0 to the league leaders at the close of play.

Head Coach Chris Everard said “We looked very rusty after the Xmas break and having our last game before Christmas cancelled hadn’t helped us, so we were glad to get a game of rugby and get this one out of our system. On a better day we could have scored 3 or 4 tries and although I was a happier with our 2nd half performance, we still have plenty to work on in training this week!”

That result helped Lutterworth maintain their unbeaten run in the League and kept them in top spot. Their next game is on Sunday as they host a powerful Melton Mowbray (Kick off 11.30 AM at Lutterworth).
