Under 17 Match Report
Sunday 2nd September 2007
Syston U17: 5pts V Lutterworth U17: 10pts
Lutterworth under 17’s travelled to Syston on Sunday for the first game of the season and registered close 10-5 win in this opening day friendly.
Lutts have lost a number of players this season to Leicester Tigers, Bedford and Nottingham Academy’s, as well as the Navy, but were still able to pick from a strong 22.
In a scrappy game, Syston opened the scoring when a kick and chase was won by Tom Collier, who made it 5-0 to the home side. The half was dominated by both sets of forwards, with both sets of backs struggling to keep hold of the ball.
The second half was similar but Lutts played more of the game in Syston territory and it was only a matter of time before they scored. It came from Greg Littlewood penalty, in front of the posts to cut the deficit to 2. The Lutts pressure continued and new club captain Dan Holmes took the game by the scruff of the neck when he received quick scrum ball at speed and jigged his way through the defence to score at the base of the posts. Littlewood converted to seal the 10-5 win to Lutterworth.
The under 17’s play in a league format this season and kick off the season proper with a trip to Coalville next Sunday (kick off 11.00 am).
