Under 16 Match Report

Sunday 20th April 2008

Leicester Lions 7pts  v  Lutterworth 21pts

A lovely day to play Rugby and the development squad continued in their winning form as they have done in previous games. Lutterworth took the lead with a Sandford penalty and it looked as if it would be a walkover. Not to be though as Lions roared back to score a try and with the conversion they took a

7 – 3 lead. Ben Stone put in a couple of big tackles and it seemed to spur the lads on. Alex Steventon put in a dazzling run when he was caught it resulted in a penalty for Sandford to score again 7 – 6. It was not long before Sandford had a hat trick of penalties and it took the half time score to 7 – 9 to Lutterworth.

Lutterworth were playing such good stuff and Alex Steventon, Ben Stone were certainly getting involved in a game they seemed to be enjoying. Sandford continued in a rich vain of points scoring with a try & conversion taking his and Lutterworth's tally to 16  7 – 16 to Lutterworth. Greg Taylor made an enormous tackle and the Lions centre was knocked back to the day before with Taylors full force. Alex Dann and Goldie Goldsworthy were not shrinking violets either and the whole squad was now producing the rugby we know they can play. Lutterworth scored their best try and once again it was Alex Steventon who was involved. Rayner took the line out and it went right across the line with some fluent passing and handling the ball ending up with Alex who sprinted in to the corner to score a really good try 7 – 21.

There was no further scoring but there were more players showing just how much they have improved this season. John Wright and Martin Rayner had great games as too did Sandford and Taylor. A great end to the season with a good win. Lets hope the Sevens squad bring back some silverware next week. Thanks for reading this year - to be continued in 2008/ 09.
