Under 16 Match Report

Lutterworth 41pts v Broad Street 0pts
Cold wet and windy, not the ideal weather for a game of rugby but both teams made the best of the conditions and served up a very entertaining game. A player getting back to full fitness Joe Leeks was first to get involved when he produced a great tackle on their biggest threat Miles. Joe brought him down and this gave Lutterworth the ball which resulted in putting Broad Street under pressure with Ryan Bruce crossing over in the corner to start the ball rolling putting Lutts 5–0 up. The next try came when Callum McDougall stole the ball from their lineout and after a great rolling maul George Hargreaves produced a superb run of 20 yards with two defenders holding on to him to go over and score, Bale kicked the conversion with a terrific kick to make the score 12–0. Again the forwards were commanding this game and after another terrific maul it was George who broke away, this time he was caught on the line but he did not lose the ball popped it up to the following Vostanis who dived over to score 17–0. Half time.
In the second half Lutts had the advantage of the conditions with the wind behind them. Ben Stone who is having a terrific season produced two tackles in quick concession and he also scored when after a great passage of play the ball reached him and he side stepped sending the opponents all the wrong way to score, 22-0. Ewan Grunwald was next on the scoresheet with a fantastic run crossing the line to extend Lutts lead, with the conversion from Bale to 29-0. Another great series of passing resulted in Sandford sending a fantastic pass over to Leeks, Joe spreading it along to Barney who made sure he extended Lutts lead; Bale again converted his third kick of the day 36-0. The final try of the game came when Joe Leeks ran onto Sandfords kick forward and was first to touch the ball down over the line 41-0. A one sided game but in these conditions a great warm up for next weeks County Cup Semi Final, bring it on.
Coaches Comments:
"Good handling, great lines from the backs. Great scrummaging from the forwards, we just have to make sure we can keep the concentration going for 80 minutes without that little spell were we seemed to go asleep for ten minutes"
Backs man of the match: Luke Sandford (best game to date for Lutts)
Forwards man of the match: George Hargreaves (Inspired performance)
