Under 16 Match Report

Sunday 18th November 2007

Lichfield 8pts  v  Lutterworth 0pts

A very wet cold and windy day saw us going to Litchfield to play two games with all our squad members who were fit, however we only got one game and had to change the team at half time to accommodate all players so that they got equal playing time.

Lutterworth started brightly and had all the possession in the first fifteen minutes but against the run of play it was Litchfield who took the lead when they picked up a loose ball and cut through our pack like a knife through butter. They missed the conversion and the score remained the same right up to half time 5 -0. Throughout the first half it seemed very strange to say but Lutts conceded at least 20 penalties and were awarded 1,  and offside were just not given.

In the second half replacements for Lutts were many and Litchfield only made five. It did not weaken Lutts in fact we played much better and all the lads played with great endeavour and kept their discipline when decisions seemed to be going against them for whatever reasons. George Hargreaves had a stormer and little Alex Dann showed just what great form he is in at the moment. An Injury to Josh Williams looked bad but proved to be a nothing more than sore fingers after being stamped on. The game could or was not allowed to flow and in such cold conditions flowing rugby was not allowed. The lads stuck to their tasks and continued to show a lot of commitment but Litchfield held on to their half time lead and increased it to 8 points when yet again they were awarded another penalty which numbers had increased to over 50 by now. A disappointing day really when we were promised two games but at least all of our lads had game time and the experience will be good for them.

Coaches Comments:

"Well played today we kept discipline and maintained our hard work policy. The game was not allowed to flow but we did keep our concentration. We need to get a little closer to the opponents at times and not allow them the space to work with, which we gave them"
