Under 16 Match Report

Sunday 16th December 2007

Lutterworth 25pts  v  Hinckley  0pts

A very cold but dry day sets the scene for the final game of 2007. Hinckley were our opponents which meant we were in for a very tough game.

The first score of the day was a penalty which  Elliot Bale stood up to take and slipped it between the posts,  3 – 0. A very popular young man was next to score, Stiffy (James Stiff) the smiley character crossed over in the corner to score his first try this season 8 – 0. Lutts were dominating play with Bruce, Leeks, Johal and Grunwald making fabulous runs at the Hinckley defenders. Ben Stone was getting stuck into the game, Ben was having a stormer and looked as if he enjoyed it too. Mikey Ingham had lots of possession he got caught once or twice, but he tried his best to increase his lead on top of the leading try scoring table. A very physical game deep into Hinckley’s half saw Hinckley trying to kick clear only for the Lutterworth pack to gather the ball and spread it along the line eventually to Bruce, Ryan ran through what seemed to be the entire Hinckley pack switching feet and weaving his way over the line to score, it was a great try and well deserved. Elliot Bale converted and the half time score was 15 – 0.

Lutterworth made some changes at half time but momentum was not lost and Lutterworth continued to press and dominate the game. Callum Johal was having a lot of the ball and the third try was set up by him when he was caught just short of the line but managed to slip the ball back to Bruce, who was following up to score in the corner 20 – 0. One way traffic now and to be fair Lutterworth should have scored a few more tries only our own mistakes were to blame for not increasing the lead. Another try was only moments away and it came when a long kick forward from Lutts bounced awkwardly over the Hinckley forwards head and Bale was there to touch it down for a score 25 – 0. Two players who stayed on for the whole game were Callum McDougal and Jack Lewis both guys were having great games and between them the coaches could not decide between them who to nominate for man of the match. The game ended with Lutts trying to score again a great end to the year and I am sure the New Year will bring silverware back to Lutterworth.

Coaches Comments:

"The tackling today was a little upright and at times the backs were to flat. Good Lineouts and good scrummaging was a plus. Rucking was not great but at times the movement of the ball was a delight to watch. Enjoy the win have a great Christmas and come back after the holiday safe and well."

Man of the match:

Forwards Callum McDougall & Jack Lewis (Could not be split)

Backs Ben Stone (a terrific game).
