COUNTY CUP FINAL

Melton Mowbray  14pts  v  Lutterworth 7pts

Lutterworth Pay the Penalty!

A very disappointing result for Lutterworth once again the bridesmaids for the squad. It started poorly with Lutts conceding a penalty for offside, Melton scored from the kick and it set them on their way. Within the first 15 minutes Melton were awarded a number of penalties and it was obvious they were going for points with every kick aimed at the posts. It was on eighteen minutes when Melton extended their lead, again a penalty and straight between the posts, resulted in them taking them to 6 – 0.

After 25 minutes Lutterworth scored a try when the ball was played across the line and Grunwald scored in the corner. Bale scored a great conversion and Lutterworth took the lead 6 – 7.  Melton continued to play a power game and refused to let their backs have any ball, but they were playing to their strengths and Lutterworth could not find a way through. Melton made it 9 – 7 when again they were awarded a penalty.  Melton were now on top and it was not long before they made sure of the win.  it was a forwards push in the corner and over the line they pushed to score 14 – 7. It was not until nearly 60 minutes before Lutterworth were awarded a penalty Elliott Bale stepping up but it went just wide. There was not enough time for Lutts to get back into the game and Melton ended up the deserved winners of this years County Cup.

Coaches Comments:

"We did not get the rub of the green today and although we tried our best, Lets live with it and show our opponents how well we deal with it. The coaches said that they were proud of the lads and they can hold their heads up high. "
