Under 16 Match Report

Sunday 13th January 2008

Lichfield RFC 10   v  Lutterworth RFC 13

Conditions were cold, wet, and very windy a lovely day really in Lichfield compared to the usual conditions we play in there. Lichfield started the stronger with the wind and slope in their favour; they scored a try within the first 6 minutes. After keeping Lutts on their own 10 metre line they managed to push over in the corner with Jamie Tyzzone the scorer, a great kick from Josh Massey converted the try making the score 7 – 0 to the hosts. Lutts never gave up and they managed to get to Lihfields line only to concede a penalty and releave the pressure. With a minute to go to half time Lutterworth had another great run at the line only to be thwarted when obstruction was called and Lutts had a penalty. Elliot Bale scored the penalty and Lutterworth reduced the arrears to 7 – 3 at half time.

The second half saw Lutts with the advantage of wind and slope, but it was Lichfield who extended the lead when Bruce was given a yellow card for obstruction. Massey scored the penalty and the score was now 10 – 3. Lutterworth battled back and a grubber kick by Hargreaves was pounced on by leading try scorer Ingham who was first to get his fingers to the ball. Elliot Bale converted and the score was now level at 10 – 10. Lutterworth continued to press and Grunwald went over in the corner only for the referee to disallow the try when he called it a knock on much to the amazement of a large contingent of support from Lutterworth. Lutterworth finally got the lead when they were awarded a penalty and the reliable boot of Bale scored again to make the final score 10 – 13 to a victorious Lutterworth squad.

Coaches Comments: "We dug in today in difficult conditions we could have got a little bit tighter but all in all we gave 100% and that’s all we can ask of you, well played good performances from the backs after last weeks criticism,  with Sandford and Bruce and Grunwald all working very hard."
