Under 16 Match Report

Sunday 10th February 2008

Lutterworth 10pts  v  Old Northamptonians 48pts

After a very good start Lutterworth were blown away by a much more powerful pack that really wanted to win this game. Granted Lutterworth were short of a few players, but it was the manner in which Lutterworth lost that was worrying. Up to half time the score was close. Lutterworth took the lead through Sandford, Old Northamptonians drew level through Walton. Lutterworth then took the lead again through Johal and just on the stroke of half time, when Lutterworthseemed to switch off, Old Northamptonians scored and converted  through Evans to take the half time score in favour of our opponents to 10 – 12. The Lutts pack tried hard to compete and at times in this half looked the stronger outfit.

Old Northamptonians made their changes at the interval and that was the end of the game as a competitive fixture. It was one way traffic after that. Old Northamptonians scored a further eight more tries and Lutterworth crumbled without replying once to their score. Heads went down and players left their team mates alone without support. Line outs looked ragged and possession was lost on too many occasions.  Old Northamptonians played in a competitive but fair way and indeed it looked as if Lutterworth had lost their discipline and not as we had expected the other way around. Lutts can only hope that today was a one off. They say that the sign of a good team is how they respond to a bad defeat, let us hope that next week we show just how to respond and put this game right out of the memory banks. Well played to Old Northamptonians today a very good wake up call. Lutterworth U16s lets hope we take note.
