COUNTY CUP

Lutterworth 55pts  v  Oadby Wyggs 8pts

Oadby Wyggs came to Lutterworth with an unbeaten tag, that was put under pressure as little as the third minute when Ewan Grunwald scored in the corner after receiving a great pass from Luke Sandford, Ryan Bruce converted with a wonderful kick 7 – 0.     All Lutts and within another two minutes they were 12 – 0 up when Lutts were awarded a penalty and George Hargreaves took a quick kick and passed along the line. The ball ended up with Grunwald and he left the poor Wyggs defence in his wake. Elliott Bale was next to score when the Lutts forwards won another scrum and Chan sent the ball out to Bale, Elliott scored and then converted taking the score to 19 – 0.

Oadby could not live with the power of the Lutts forwards and the Lutts backs just had to much speed for their opponents. Oadby however got a penalty and Rich Wale gave them 3 points to help their cause, 19 – 3.  It was now time for Goldie to stake his name on the game. Chan went on the blind side from the scrum and he passed to Bale, Bale on to  Harry Goldsworthy, Harry still had a lot to do and he made no mistake in sprinting through to score his first of the day 24 - 3. Try two from Harry came when a great move across the line including Bruce, Sandford and eventually the scorer Goldsworthy was brilliant to watch taking the score up to 29 then on to 31 with Bale’s conversion 31 – 3 at the half time break.

Mikey Ingham who is having a great season up to now caught the ball again straight from the kick off and he looks so solid when climbing up in the air to collect the ball. It was Mikey who scored Lutts sixth try, Williams rose high in the lineout and spread it out to his backs they took it through and won the scrimmage with their powerful forwards, Ingham scooped up the ball and crossed the line 36 – 3.  Oadby scored through Elliott Wilson and although they put a few points on the board they never looked like getting back into the game 36 – 8. The try of the game was still to come and it was Goldies Hatrick, Luke Sandford passed to Grunwald, on to Ingham then on to Pell, Bradley ran through the gap and spread it out to Goldie and the points were added to Lutts total making it  43 -8 after Bales conversion. Eddie Hopkins continued to add to Wyggs woes this time Ewan & Luke combined again then on to Hargreaves then on to Ingham who gave it to Hopkins to score 48 – 8. The final try was a penalty try, Ingham taking it through to claim the score and Bale wrapping up the points making the score an impressive 55 – 8 to send Lutts on to the next round.

Coaches Comments and man of the match awards:

"Lots of positives Scrummed well, Lineouts won were good Backs lines were great and forwards looked very strong. Let’s not get carried away with this result, let’s work hard in training and let’s put more work on our lineouts. We will have to be more disciplined and we will have to cut out the arguments with the opponents"
