Under 16 Match Report

Sunday 6th April 2008

Market Bosworth  7pts  v  Lutterworth 22pts

The warm up for the County Cup Final could not be better, a game against Market Bosworth. On a very cold but sunny morning with snow on the ground the game was in some doubt, but when we arrived the sun had done its job and the thaw was in progression. Lutterworth had the bit between their teeth as they were reminded all week of last years defeat.

Lutterworth started the stronger and kept Bosworth pinned on their own 22 for at least 15 minutes and in the 20th minute Joe Leeks ran across the pitch then down the wing to the corner before being tackled. Joe passed it back to Barker and Barney, who gave chase and supported Joe through his long run, got the reward of a try 0 – 5. Bosworth immediately replied and although it was initially a mistake from Lutts, great anticipation from Phil Blackler touched down under the posts, with the impressive Rumming in fine form Bosworth converted and the game was now coming to life 7 – 5. The game ebbed and flowed either way but Lutterworth were passing better and we thought it would not be long before we scored again.  After 30 minutes Lutterworth were awarded a penalty and Elliot Bale stepped up to slot it between the posts taking the score up to half time 7 – 8 to Lutterworth.

It was the hoops of Lutterworth who dominated the second half with possession although resilient defending from the Bosworth pack was making scoring hard on the sticky surface. Coach Sandford shouted instructions from the line and a planned training ground move was to follow. The lads executed their move with precision and a score followed. As admin I was impressed but not enough to give away the call before next weeks game. It was Barney who scored the try and all of the backs played their part in the execution of it 7 – 15. The final try of the day was scored by leading scorer this year Grunwald.  Bale made a dummy switch and Ewan Grunwald ran through to put it straight under the posts, Elliot converted and the final score was 7 – 22 to Lutterworth.  A very entertaining game to watch, with Bosworth playing their part to the full, a good warm up towards next week County Cup game.

Coaches Comments:

" There were some good bits today well done but we still need to lift it a little before next week. We need to be more positive in making decisions and we need to make the right decisions when and when not to pass."
