Under 16 Match Report
Sunday 6th January 2008
Lutterworth 15pts v Coalville 12pts
A lovely sunny day to entertain a large crowd. A perfect setting and a perfect start with Alex Steventon making a great dash through the heart of Coalville’s defence and passing to Luke Sandford, Luke did the rest and crossed the line to set us on our way. Luke Sandford also converted and Lutterworth were 7 – 0 in front after five minutes.
The game ebbed and flowed but Lutterworth wasted lots of procession and allowed Coalville to get back into the game. Although the forwards looked good it looked as if the backs had been indulging in lots of Christmas treats and the game never really got really flowing. Lutterworth did extend their lead when they were awarded a penalty. Sandford stepped up and scored his and Lutts 10th point of the game 10 – 0. There were big tackles made by Walch, Stone and Wright but it was only a matter of time before Coalville got on the scoresheet. Coalville won a scrum against the head and progressed to the corner Lutterworth’s brave defensive effort could not keep them out and they scored just before half time making the score 10 – 5 to the home team.
The second half started with promise as well. Connor gained the ball and released Goldsworthy, Harry ran down the line and crossed over in the corner making the score 15 – 5, the conversion was missed. Leeks then made one of his fantastic runs (good to see him back after injury) he ran 40 yards only to be stopped by a late dive by a Coalville player who manage to just tap his ankle and bring him down. There were creditable performances in Lutterworths colours with the coaches mentioning Lewis, Ingham Bruce and Leeks. Coalville kept battling and got another try. They kept Lutterworth pegged back on their own 22 then managed to get over in the corner to score. They converted their try and the score finished at 15 – 12 to Lutterworth.
Coaches Comments:
"A disappointing game, we stopped rucking and tackling. We conceded too many penalties and at times we went to sleep. We must work hard in training to put this right."
Man of the match:
Forwards: Sam Walch (Great Tackling)
Backs: Joe Leeks (Lots of effort)
