COUNTY CUP

Leicester Lions 3pts  v  Lutterworth 27pts

A lovely sunny day with very little wind, these were great conditions to play a county cup game. Lutts were well up for the game and after 5 minutes took the lead when against the head Vostanis picked the ball up off the floor and Connor took it off him and touched the ball down to set the lads on their way 0 – 5. Lions settled down and worked their way back into the game, only for Lutts to break away and extend the lead after another scrum was won and through the impressible Ingham scored in the corner 0 – 10. Lions had possession and Connor launched a terrific tackle to gain possession for the Lutts boys, this enabled the lads to go forward and get a throw in deep into their half. Hargreaves threw a lovely ball to Williams and he in turn passed it to Stiff who set Ingham up once again to score and take the score to 0 – 15 with Bale’s conversion it went to 3 – 17. Throughout this half Lions were awarded several penalties and it was through a penalty that they scored their only points of the game, Will O’Sullivan scoring from about 30 yards out to reduce the arrears 3 – 17 at half time.

Lutterworth continued to put pressure on the Lions defence and it was not long before they got their rewards, Vostanis broke away from a maul and crossed the line to score his first try of the season 3 - 22. Bradley Pell was unlucky not to get through when a great move involving four players broke down just short of the line. Captain Hargreaves scored his first club try today when he came off a rolling maul to score.  A great push from the forwards and hard work from George made the score    3 – 27.   Lutterworth continued to suppress the hard working Lions  squad and the game finished with Lutterworth going through to the next round with a game against Market Harborough who beat Market Bosworth today in the same competition.

Coaches Comments.

"Good win but we need to be more clinical. Forwards were good but they still need to get closer to opponents and as a team we need to stay on our feet longer.  Well done and through to the next round we go"
