Under 13 Match Report

SUNDAY 28th October 2007

Lutterworth  39pts  v  Oadby Wyggs  0pts

The under 13’s were looking forward to their first opportunity to play on the first team pitch at home however we all feared this may not be possible following both the charring of the grass and the goal posts as an extremely gusty wind fanned the flames at the bonfire party on Saturday night.

After sterling work by the club members however the pitch was playable if a little discoloured and the posts whilst blackened remained on the whole intact.  The strong wind from Saturday evening showed no signs of abating as Oadby kicked off with the benefit of the gusting breeze and from the outset Lutterworth found that the combination of Oadby’s tough tackling and the gusting wind made their usual flowing back play almost impossible.

There was no score in what was an extremely hard fought first 10 minutes to the game before George Ball took over proceedings with a hat trick of tries in the final 15 minutes of the first half.  Against the wind however none of the tries were converted and the team’s turn round for the second half with the scores flattering Lutterworth somewhat at 15-0.

As the second half wore on however the Lutterworth boys appreciated that they needed to play more ugly Rugby and Matt Ringrose scored a great forward’s try from all of a metre out following good pressure on the Oadby line.  This was soon followed by Jamie Jameson sniping off the scrum to score on the blind side.

Ollie Allen then broke the defensive ranks with a great run only to be tackled 5 metres short of the line but for once it was George Ball benefiting from the strong running of a team mate who was first to the ball to score the easiest try he will score all season. Ollie Allen deservedly completed the try scoring following another strong run.  The point scoring was completed by George Ball and James Gamble each adding one conversion each.

It was interesting to note the strength of Oadby Wyggs compared to last season and particular praise should go to the Oadby boys who provided the most tenacious opposition that we have played this season.
