Under 13 Match Report
SUNDAY 25th Noveber 2007
JUNIOR COUNTY CUP 1st ROUND
Lutterworth 50pts v Leicester Forest 0pts
On Sunday the Under 13’s hosted Leicester Forest in the first round of the County Cup but not before a last minute panic when it was realised that the boys had to wear numbered shirts in the County Cup. Thanks must go to “Mr Fix It” (Mike Gledhill ) and all the mums and dads who burned the midnight oil to ensure that the players turned out in shirts compliant with the County Cup rules following Mike’s last minute acquisition of 22 shirt numbers distributed after training on Thursday evening.
The Lutterworth boys were unfazed by the last minute trauma for coaches and parents as they continued the season’s great form with a convincing win over Leicester Forest. From the outset the Lutterworth boys moved the ball amongst the backs well with Callum McDonald finishing off a lovely passing move to score the first try. The second try was a great pick and go from Rob Charlton playing No.8 picking the ball up at the back of the scrum before driving over on the blind side. Two George Ball tries and a conversion each from James Gamble and Sam Webb made a half time score of 24 – 0 to the home side.
Around the half time interval Lutterworth made a number of changes to ensure that all the squad played a full part in the game however the pattern of play remained unaltered with Leicester Forest fighting a valiant rear guard action but unable to cope with the pace of the Lutterworth backs and the power of the Lutterworth forwards. Further tries were added by George Ball (2) Ollie Allen and Theo Spafford with further conversions being added by James Gamble (2) and Sam Webb (1) to give a final score of Lutterworth 50 Leicester Forest 0. This was all in all a very pleasing performance and a good way to begin the defence of our County Crown especially with the surprising news that Oakham with whom we were joint County Champions last season were beaten in the first round this year at Hinckley.
The quarter final will no doubt be a tough game with Loughborough visiting Ashby Road on 13 January 2008.
